When Denise doesn't come home, her father Don calls the police to report her missing. Don, a former policeman, is called to the scene to help the deputies search. They arrive at the Firefly house and Wydell questions Mother Firefly about the missing teens. Mother Firefly shoots Wydell in the head and kills him; Don and Steve are then killed by Otis when they find more bodies of missing cheerleaders in the barn, along with a barely conscious Mary. On October 30, 1977, amateur criminals Killer Karl and Richard Wick attempt an armed robbery at a gas station/horror museum, but are killed by the owner, Captain Spaulding, and his assistant, Ravelli.

While Rob Zombie has acknowledged the change and stated it reflects his desire to have the sequels be much more realistic than House of 1000 Corpses, it’s still something that’s never addressed in the films themselves. At one point Otis is simply an albino man, and by the next he wakes up looking like Charles Manson with a thick dark beard and normal complexion. In House of 1000 Corpses, when we finally meet Otis Driftwood as played by Bill Moseley, he appears much differently than he does in the film’s sequels. His skin and eye color indicates that he’s inflicted with albinism, and it’s also illustrated with his incredibly fair-colored hair.

Otis also befriended Spaulding's daughter Vera-Ellen whom he referred to as "Baby". He is not without humanity, however; he shares a bond of love and loyalty with his family, particularly his adoptive sister Baby, of whom he is fiercely protective. His relationship with his "father" Captain Spaulding is more combative; in the first film, he calls Spaulding an "old bitch", while in the second film, they frequently argue. She makes her way to the main road where she encounters Captain Spaulding, who gives her a ride in his car. She passes out from exhaustion in the front seat, and Otis suddenly appears in the back seat with a knife.

Although House of 1000 Corpses is a cult classic that made Zombie a household name in the horror genre, the director himself actually doesn't like the film very much. However, they might be surprised to learn that the villains' names were influenced by comedian Groucho Marx. While these genres might not seem to blend at first glance, none of that mattered to Zombie, who is a huge fan of the legendary comic. "I was a big Marx Brothers fan when I was a little kid because their movies were always on TV," Zombie remarked in 2016. "A Night at the Opera, in particular, was on a lot. No matter how Zombie feels, however, House of 1000 Corpses continues to make Halloween must-watch lists every year. An artist is entitled to be hard on his early work, but all the fans see is bloody goodness. The other two films in the Firefly trilogy aren't even the only sequels Zombie has gone on to make.

It might not be much of a plot hole, but it is no doubt a major inconsistency for the Firefly Trilogy and quite a strange one considering how well The Devil’s Rejects otherwise transitions from the events in House of 1000 Corpses. While we’ll likely never have an in-canon answer for Otis’s change in appearance, it was probably for the best considering how well-received The Devil’s Rejects is by fans. It's hard to believe House of 1000 Corpses hit theaters so many years ago. It's even harder to grasp that the world has lost an enormous number of the actors who starred in the cult classic since its release.
